WHAT HAPPENED?

TikTok is bringing automated media buying and generative creative much closer together.
At TikTok World 2026, the company expanded Smart+, its AI-driven performance system, while adding new creative capabilities to TikTok Symphony.

Smart+ can automate areas including targeting, budgets and placements, while Auto Selection can pull together advertiser assets, creator content and Symphony-generated creative and select what it expects to perform best.

TikTok also integrated ByteDance's Dreamina Seedance 2.0 video model into Symphony at TikTok World. It has since upgraded Symphony to Dreamina Seedance 2.5, showing how quickly the creative stack itself is evolving.

1. WHAT OPENAI ACTUALLY CHANGED

Smart+ increasingly automates the distribution side of the campaign.

Advertisers can allow TikTok to handle audience targeting, budget strategy and placements while retaining manual controls when required.

At the same time, Symphony is expanding the supply side.

  • Multimodal video generation

  • Reference to Video

  • Precise product placement

  • Customized video output

TikTok has also introduced Agentic Hub, where AI agents can assist with campaign creation, creative work, performance analysis, audience insights and catalog management through TikTok's MCP infrastructure..

More campaign execution is becoming automated.

And so is the production of assets the campaign needs.

2. WHY IT MATTERS FOR ADVERTISERS

The important shift is simple:

TikTok has always had a creative-volume problem.

An ad works. Then people see it repeatedly. Performance fades.

The team needs another one.

When targeting, placements and budgets become increasingly automated, creative supply becomes one of the biggest remaining variables advertisers can influence.

Generative AI makes supplying more variations easier. But that does not mean advertisers should generate hundreds of random videos.

The advantage comes from giving the system structured variety.

Different hooks.

Different creators.

Different product angles.

Different offers.

Different reasons to buy.

The machine can test the combinations.

The marketer still needs to decide which ideas are worth feeding it.

3. Here’s an Explainer!

Imagine a skincare brand launching one new serum.

Instead of producing four polished ads for the month, the team develops several distinct hooks:

Acne prevention.

Sensitive skin.

Morning routine.

Before-and-after results.

It then combines those ideas with different creator styles, demonstrations and offers using Symphony.

Smart+ can work from that larger creative pool and Auto Selection can identify which assets deserve more delivery.

Creative-level reporting then informs the next production cycle.

The workflow becomes:

Create → test → learn → create again.

Not:

Create → launch → wait for fatigue.

THE SIGNAL

4. WHAT ADVERTISERS SHOULD DO

Build a creative testing system, not merely a folder of ads.

Organize production around hooks, creators, products, offers and formats so you know what variable each piece of creative is actually testing.

Then establish a regular refresh cycle.

If TikTok can test creative faster, your team needs to be capable of turning those learnings into the next batch just as quickly.

Finally, keep human review around claims, product representation and brand standards.

More creative supply is useful.

More bad creative is just more bad creative.

ORBIT. TODAY’s TAKE

Automation can find the audience, allocate the budget and choose the asset.

But it still needs something worth choosing from.

As TikTok automates more media buying, creative supply becomes the new performance infrastructure.

The brands that win may not make one perfect TikTok ad.

They may build the better machine for producing the next one.
