More automation changes the marketer's job. This checklist helps you make the boundaries and measurement explicit before changing a campaign.
The AI Campaign Controls Checklist
Use this before expanding automation in an advertising campaign. These are planning checks; available controls differ by platform and account.
Define the business outcome. Write down the conversion that matters, the reporting source, and your acceptable acquisition cost before changing settings.
Check the conversion signal. Test one complete conversion journey, check for duplicate events, and separate useful leads or purchases from low-value actions.
Record the boundaries. Note your budget, permitted locations, approved landing pages, brand requirements and exclusions. Verify which boundaries the automation actually respects.
Protect account access. Give tools only the permissions they need. Identify who can approve spending or campaign changes, and keep a record of changes.
Set a baseline. Save recent spend, conversions, acquisition cost and lead or customer quality. Note promotions and tracking changes that could distort comparison.
Change one major variable. Write a test hypothesis, budget ceiling, review date and stop condition. Let the conversion window mature before interpreting results.
Inspect the outputs. Review search queries, placements, generated creative, destinations and product selection wherever reporting allows. Check the outcome outside the ad dashboard too.
Make a keep, revise or stop decision. Record the evidence, uncertainty and next action. A higher platform-reported return alone does not establish incremental growth.
